‘Pecan Summer’ Indigenous Opera screen-ing, Friday 13th July, 6 pm. Free drinks and nibbles.

Pooraka Farm Community Centre (formerly Pooraka Farm Neighbourhood House) is situated on Montague Farm Estate, on the corner of Henderson Avenue and Montague Road right next to the windmill. The modern building, which is light and airy, was constructed in 1993. The Centre is adjacent to a childcare centre and opposite a shopping complex. It is within easy walking distance from Main North Rd, and not far from Mawson Lakes, and there are several bus routes which run nearby. (Go to 'Contact Us' for details.)

Nunga Women’s Discussion Group
A new group catering to Nunga women in the community is running on Tuesdays from 11:30 am - 2:00 pm. The group will discuss issues and support one another. There will be opportunity to learn cultural crafts as well. Transport is available if needed (please contact the Centre at least 1 day in advance for this service), and a light lunch will be supplied. There is no cost for this class.

Join us for two special community events during July. First, on 11 July is an Aboriginal Flag raising Ceremony in Henderson Square followed by a BBQ lunch and Wadgedin Werra scrub meal, guest speakers, crafts etc. Second, on 13 July is a screening of Australia’s first Indigenous opera ‘Pecan Summer’. It’s based on a walk off a NSW Mission. The showing is free, and drinks and nibbles are provided.
